Cat Ba Island is the largest island in Ha Long Bay, an area famous for it’s ocean karst topography. Many visitors opt for an expensive cruise around Ha Long Bay but from Cat Ba Island you can cruise around Lan Ha Bay for a quarter of the price in an area that’s just as scenic and with far less tourists. I made some friends on the island and we filled our days gliding among giant rock formations, kayaking through emerald-blue waters, biking across the island, and hiking the tropical Cat Ba National Forest.
